Kremlin foes fume as Russian set to be Interpol chief

Alexander Prokopchuk, a former major general in Russia’s ministry of the interior, emerged as one of the favourites to become Interpol chief, a prospect that alarmed critics of President Putin. Politicians in Lithuania and Ukraine have urged their govts to quit Interpol if Prokopchuk is elected. Britain has said it is backing his South Korean rival Kim Jong-yang.
