'God Blessing Prince': Tendulkar, Gill Catch Up In Ahmedabad, Pic Viral

Shubman Gill took the cricketing fraternity by storm after he smashed his third century of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season to fire Gujarat Titans to their second final in as many years. Gill's 60-ball 129 fired Gujarat to 233-3, a total they defended by bowling out five-time winners Mumbai for 171 in 18.2 overs in the final playoff which started late due to rain in Ahmedabad. The 23-year-old struck 10 sixes and put on a second-wicket stand of 138 with Sai Sudharsan, who made 43, to tear into the opposition attack at the world's biggest cricket stadium.

After the match, Gill was seen having a chat with batting great Sachin Tendulkar, who is the mentor of MI, in the dugout. The interaction between Gill and Tendulkar has gone viral on social media.

Here's how Twitter reacted:

Gill, who is tipped as the future of Indian batting, made the most of a reprieve on 30 when Tim David dropped him off England fast bowler Chris Jordan.

His knock took him to 851 runs in the ongoing season, the most by a player this season. He also reclaimed the Orange Cap from Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis.

Named man of the match, Gill said: "I think this was probably my best innings so far in the IPL."

Skipper Hardik Pandya praised his opener, saying: "Today's innings was one of the finest, he never looked rushed. It felt like someone was throwing balls and he was hitting. He will be a superstar in international and franchise cricket."

Could've Gone To Jail: Warner On Getting Caught Off-Guard By Great's Prank

Australia batter David Warner has revealed how Ricky Ponting taught him a lesson after he played a prank on him. Warner, who is made his Australia debut under Ponting's captaincy, has revealed a unheard tale from his first overseas tour in 2010. Notably, Warner led the Delhi Capitals in the ongoing season of Indian Premier League (IPL), with Ponting as the head coach of the franchise. Warner recalled that he once put "vegemite" on the key hole of Ponting's hotel room.

"During my first away series, which was in South Africa in 2010, Ricky Ponting's room was next to me. I thought it would be smart to put vaceline on his door handle. I also put vegemite on his keyhole. I was looking through my peep hole that he was trying to open his door. He went on to put the key but it didn't open. He had to take help from the reception. Someone must've told him it was me," Warner told Gaurav Kapoor in the latest episode of 'Breakfast with Champions.

However, Warner further revealed that it was the last prank he ever pulled on Ponting, who taught him a lesson with a prank of his own.

"Three weeks later, I went home and didn't open my cricket kit. I went to pull out my cricket shoes, and there was salmon and eggs. I was like what is going on here. Who would do this to me. I went through customs in Australia. I could've gone to jail for not declaring the stuff. I figured out it was Punter. I was sick as a dog. Ponting told me 'You wanna play prank on me? I will have the last laught. That was the last time I ever pranked Ricky Ponting. I've learnt my lesson," he added.

DC failed to qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs after crashing out of the competition in league phase.

On Indian Team Selection, Rinku Singh's Response Sums Up His Mindset

Truly one of the finest finishers in the T20 game at present, Rinku Singh produced another masterclass for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2023 on Saturday. Though Rinku's unbeaten 67-run knock wasn't enough to take the team past Lucknow Super Giants' score of 176 runs, he earned plenty of respect from opponents and fans for another breathtaking knock. After the end of the match, Rinku also spoke about his Indian national cricket team ambitions. But, the focus for the uncapped star remains training and doing things that are in his hand, and not selection, which he has no control over.

"It feels good to have a season like this. I'm not thinking too much about the Indian team selection. Now when I head home, I will go back to my routine practice, gym. I will just keep doing my work," said Rinku at the post-match press conference.

Rinku had produced a few fine cameos with the bat for KKR last season but he truly stepped up his game in this campaign. It was especially after his 5 sixes against Gujarat Titans' Yash Dayal that Rinku became a household name. His family, understandably, is very happy with all the love the KKR star is getting.

"My family is very happy. People used to know me before. The last few knocks I played, people started to know about me. But ever since I hit those five sixes in the game against GT, I've started to get a lot more respect and many more have started to recognize me. So it feels good," said Rinku.

Seeing Rinku perform the way he has this season, many former cricketers feel that the Indian cap is right on the cusp for the talented cricketer.

from NDTV Sports-Cricket https://ift.tt/wSOsgUl

Watch: Rinku Singh's Gigantic 110m Six To Naven-ul-Haq Leaves Fans In Awe

Rinku Singh's fighting knock of 67 runs wasn't enough as Lucknow Super Giants defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by a slender 1-run marring in an absolute thriller of a contest at the Eden Gardens. Rinku, who has produced some heroic chases this season for the Knight Riders, almost pulled off another one on Saturday. Rinku made his intentions clear in the final phases of the game, especially when he slammed a gigantic 110-meter six against LSG pacer Naveen-ul-Haq to bring up his half-century.

Fans were left awestruck seeing Rinku's monstrous hit. But, in the end, it just wasn't enough.

While the victory assured LSG of a playoff berth, a defeat to KKR put curtains on their IPL 2023 campaign.

Chasing 177, KKR were off to a flier as Venkatesh Iyer smashed a couple of fours and a six off Mohsin Khan in the first over. Jason Roy then went after Naveen-ul-Haq and cracked a couple of fours and a cracking straight six to make it 15 again, off the second over. Krunal then brought himself into the attack and bowled a decent over, giving away just six runs. The pair took 9 runs off K Gowtham and Roy then took the attack to Krunal, hitting three fours in a row to make it 14 off the over.

Gowtham finally got LSG the breakthrough as he had Iyer (24 off 15) caught at extra cover as KKR reached 61/1 at the end of the Powerplay. Ravi Bishoni then provided another breakthrough as he had captain Nitish Rana caught at extra cover off a leading edge for his 100th T20 wicket. KKR lost another one in quick succession as Krunal cleaned up Roy (45 off 28) to help the away side claw their way back into the match.

LSG bowled with accuracy and discipline and kept things tight. The pressure brought the wicket as Rahmanullah Gurbaz went for a big one but got an outside edge to backward point off Impact Player Yash Thakur where Bishnoi took a juggling catch. Thakur bowled a fantastic over and gave away just three.

Naveen bowled another decent over, giving away just six as the equation came to 63 needed off 30 balls. Russell tried to up the scoring, cracking a straight six off Bishnoi but the LSG spinner bounced back to have Russell's off stump knocked down off the next ball. It was another very good over for LSG with just seven runs coming off it along with the big wicket of Russell.

With 56 needed off 24, Naveen bowled another good over, conceding just five. Rinku Singh finally released some pressure as he swung one over deep backward square leg for a six. But Yash Thakur bounced back to dismiss Shardul Thakur as he had him caught at deep square leg off a short ball. KKR lost another in the over as Sunil Narine was run out trying to go for a risky second.

Yash made an excellent comeback to give away just four more runs apart from that six from Rinku. With 41 needed off 12 balls, Rinku Singh hit three fours in a row, one off the outside edge, one rocketing off the middle through extra cover off Naveen and one slashed over short third man. He then scampered through for a risky two off the next ball to bring the equation down to 27 off 8. He clobbered the next ball over deep square leg for a 110m six to bring up his fifty off just 27 balls. He swung and missed the last one as 20 runs came off the over.

With 21 needed off six, Krunal handed the ball to Impact Player Yash Thakur. Vaibhav Arora bunted the first ball down the ground and gave the strike to Rinku. Yash bowled the next one wide outside off and it was called a WIDE. The next ball was fast and short and Rinku was beaten for pace as the ball flicked his helmet even before he could complete his shot. The next one was in the blockhole and Rinku mistimed his heave to deep mid-wicket. He didn't take the single. The next one was a wide.

With 18 needed off 3, Runku Singh smashed it over the deep mid-wicket stands to provide hope of another miracle. With 12 needed off 2, Yash bowled it very full and Rinku crashed it through extra cover only for a four. With 8 needed off 1, Rinku smacked it over long on where the fielder parried it over the ropes for a six as the home side fell agonisingly short by two runs.

Mumbai Indians vs SunRisers Hyderabad, IPL: Predicted XIs For Both Sides

Playoff aspirants Mumbai Indians take on SunRisers Hyderabad in their last match of the league phase of this season's Indian Premier League (IPL). With one playoff spot remaining, MI need nothing less than a win to keep up the pressure on fourth-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who will be in action later on Sunday at home to Gujarat Titans. With four wins and two defeats, MI have certainly taken full advantage of their homeground, something that Rohit Sharma's men would want to continue as they also have the final opportunity to improve their Net Run Rate (NRR).

Unlike Rajasthan Royals who have finished the league round with 14 points and a superior NRR of 0.148, Mumbai Indians can do one better and end with 16 points, but they must also win big.

Currently at fourth, Royal Challengers Bangalore can be described as being in pole position since they have a better NRR of 0.180 than MI (-0.128) and RR.

Despite Rohit Sharma blowing hot and cold, MI's batting has pulled off difficult tasks with ease and the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Tim David, Cameron Green, Ishan Kishan and Nehal Wadhera will be expected to go all guns blazing against SRH's bowlers.

SRH, on the other hand, will aim to end on a high and repeat most of the good work they did against RCB in their last outing.

Heinrich Klaasen's superb century came too late in this IPL for SRH's liking but they gave a glimpse of what they can do with the bat, although as a side, the 2016 champions have lacked both direction and firepower.

MI Predicted XI: Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Nehal Wadhera, Cameron Green, Tim David, Piyush Chawla, Jason Behrendorff, Raghav Goyal, Akash Madhwal, Kumar Kartikeya (Impact Player: Tristan Stubbs)

SRH Predicted XI: Aiden Markram, Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Harry Brook, Heinrich Klaasen, Glenn Phillips, Mayank Dagar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kartik Tyagi, Mayank Markande, Nitish Kumar Reddy (Impact Player: T Natarajan)

Watch: Sunil Narine Bamboozles Ambati Rayudu, Moeen Ali In Same Over

Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy bagged two wickets each as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) managed to restrict Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a total of 144/6 in 20 overs in their IPL 2023 match on Sunday. Narine, who has been under the scanner for his performances so far this season, bowled an economical spell of 2/15 as he cleaned up Ambati Rayudu and Moeen Ali in the 11th over of CSK's innings. Ambati Rayudu's poor season continued as he fell for just 4 after a failed attempt to sweep Narine.

Moeen, too, was bamboozled by Narine's carrom ball, which went onto floor his middle-stump.

Speaking of the match, after opting to bat, CSK were 72 for five in in the 11th over before Shivam Dube underlined his utility, hammering a 34-ball 48 (1x4, 3x6s) to help the hosts somewhat recuperate in the company of Ravindra Jadeja (20 off 24).

The duo shared 68-run stand for the sixth wicket to take CSK close to the 150-run mark, which at one point of time looked out of reach on a sluggish pitch.

Overs 17 and 18 bowled by leg-spinner Suyash Sharma and Chakravarthy yielded 16 and 15 runs respectively as Dube led CSK's fightback.

Watch: Fans' Roar Makes Post-Match Interview Tricky Affair For MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni is loved everywhere he goes but whenever Chennai Super Kings are playing at Chepauk, the support he gets from fans is unparalleled. Despite CSK's defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 clash on Sunday, fans continued to cheer for Dhoni, so much so that the skipper couldn't even ever what the presenter Simon Doull was asking him at the post-match presentation ceremony. The loud cheer from fans forced Dhoni to turn up the speaker's volume, summing up how the atmosphere was at the Ma Chidambaram stadium.

Dhoni struggled to understand what Doull was saying. The CSK skipper's grin widened as he heard tried hard to understand the commentator amid the huge roar from the Chepauk crowd.

Unable to hear the question, the captain signalled that he wanted the volume cranked up as others struggled to understand what the 41-year-old meant, he went ahead and helped himself.

Doull, waiting at the other end, repeated his question, with Dhoni finally being able to go ahead with the proceedings.

On being asked what went wrong for his side, Dhoni said: "One of those days when you win the toss and bat first and the moment the first ball was bowled in the second innings, you realise it is a 180 wicket."

He then added: "Batting first I don't think we could have got anywhere close to 180. I think the dew made a big difference. If you compare the first innings to the second innings, there was a lot more purchase for the spinners in the first innings and that's what really got to us. (Can't blame anyone for the loss) Yes, I think so. Whenever there is no certainty about dew that is when the decision (at the toss) becomes slightly tricky. And as I said, you win the toss and you bowl first and you realize there is no dew in the second innings, chasing 150 against their spinners could have been tough too. So we can't really blame any batter or bowler for this loss. They tried their best, but the conditions had a big impact on the game."

CSK couldn've become the first side to qualify for the playoffs but now, they would need to beat the Delhi Capitals in their final league match of the campaign to book a spot in the next round.

"What A Player": Kohli's Special Tribute To Saha After Explosive IPL Fifty

Shubman Gill smashed an unbeaten 94 and Wriddhiman Saha a brutal 81 as Gujarat Titans piled up 227 for two - the fourth highest total this season - against Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Saha and Gill went hammer and tongs from the word go to add 142 runs for the first wicket in only 12.1 overs, setting the franchise record for highest partnership for any wicket, as LSG had no respite despite deploying eight bowlers into the attack.

It was also the second-best stand for any team for any wicket in this IPL, and for Gujarat Titans, the total was their highest-ever in IPL since their debut last season.

Saha struck an overall four sixes and 10 fours to make 81 runs from 43 balls. While Gill opened up tad late, it was Saha who kept firing from one end for GT.

India and Royal Challengers Bangalore batter Virat Kohli was in awe of Saha's knock. He took to Instagram Stories to post the picture of Saha from the game and wrote "what a player" with clapping emojis.

et1haoc8

During the match, Gujarat Titans also bettered their overall record of most runs in the powerplay.

Having hit 65 against Chennai Super Kings here in the season-opener, the Saha-Gill pair went ballistic to add 78 runs in the first six overs, scoring at 13 runs per over.

Hardik Pandya scored 25 off 15 balls while David Miller hit 21 not out off 12 balls to take GT to a big total.
