CSK Seamer Mukesh Choudhary Doubtful Starter For IPL 2023

Chennai Super Kings seamer Mukesh Choudhary is a doubtful starter for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as he is currently healing from a back injury at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The confirmation whether the left-armer will miss some part of the tournament has not come yet. The 26-year-old had joined the CSK preparatory camp earlier this month in Chennai before he headed to NCA. The time frame for his return from injury is not clear yet.

Mukesh last played a competitive cricket match back in December 2022 for Maharashtra in Vijay Hazare Trophy, which is the country's top 50-over domestic tournament, in Ahmedabad.

This injury has hit another dent on CSK's title hopes. Their seam attack has already lost New Zealand quick Kyle Jamieson, who is also recovering from a back injury. Deepak Chahar, the pace spearhead, is also working his way back from injury. The team's in-form opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad is also injured and recovering. All-rounder Shiva Dube is also healing from an injury sustained during practice sessions for Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The Sri Lankan bowling pair of Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana will also miss some CSK action initially. Their national commitments, which involve a six-match white-ball series against New Zealand set to end on April 8.

Choudhary's absence will leave CSK without a left-arm seamer in their squad. In the last IPL season, he was one of the biggest finds as he emerged as the team's joint-highest wicket-taker, with 16 scalps in 13 games at an economy rate of 9.31. Eleven of these wickets came in the powerplay, the joint-most taken by any bowler in this phase of the match in the tournament.

Delhi's Simarjeet Singh and Mumbai's Tushar Deshpande, who recently clinched the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title, are the reserve pace-bowling options for Super Kings.

CSK will play their first IPL 2023 match against Gujarat Titans on March 31, which also happens to be the tournament opener.

The four-time champions will play their first game at the home arena of MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 3 against Lucknow Super Giants.

Last year, CSK finished in the ninth position in the points table, having won only four of their 14 matches and collected only eight points.

Chennai Super Kings: Squad strength 25 players (Overseas 8)

Players bought in IPL auction 2023 - Ajinkya Rahane (INR 50 lakh), Ben Stokes (INR 16.25 crore), Shaik Rasheed (INR 20 lakh), Nishant Sindhu (INR 60 lakh), Kyle Jamieson (INR 1 crore), Ajay Mandal (INR 20 lakh), Bhagath Varma (INR 20 lakh)

Players Retained - MS Dhoni (c), Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu, Subhranshu Senapati, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Dwaine Pretorius, Mitchell Santner, Ravindra Jadeja, Tushar Deshpande, Mukesh Chowdhary, Matheesha Pathirana, Simarjeet Singh, Deepak Chahar, Prashant Solanki, Maheesh Theekshana.

Kohli "Will Have To...": Ex-Pakistan Star Fires Warning Ahead Of WTC Final

Australia left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc was all over India's top-order in the first ODI at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. Starc returned figures of 3/49, dismissing Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav off consecutive deliveries. Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria highlighted Kohli's dismissal off Starc's delivery, and fired a warning bell for the star batter. Kaneria suggested that Kohli's struggles against left-arm pacers could haunt him at the World Test Championship (WTC) final, where India are scheduled to play Australia in June.

"Virat Kohli isn't comfortable against left-arm pacers when the ball comes back in. He will have to practice to face Mitchell Starc in the World Test Championship final. The team management should bring in left-arm pacers like T Natarajan as net bowlers," Kaneria said in a video on his YouTube channel.

India won the first ODI by 5 wickets as KL Rahul led the 189-run chase, smashing an unbeaten 75. He took stock and an unbeaten 108-run sixth-wicket stand with Ravindra Jadeja (45 not out) ensured the hosts secured victory in 39.5 overs.

Sharing his views on Rahul, Kaneria quipped: "KL Rahul has dealt a major setback. He was dropped from the Test team and he knows that he will have to deliver now and have to be very sensible. Dropping someone is never the solution. You need to fix the problems. He looked very composed today and the Australian bowlers couldn't hit his pads as he was getting behind the line of the ball," he added.

India and Australia will square off in the second ODI in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

On Ashwin's "Should I Leave My Job" Tweet, Pujara's Priceless Response

With the Ahmedabad Test heading for a dull draw on the 5th day, the Indian cricket team handed the ball to ‘net bowlers' Cheteshwar Puajra and Shubman Gill. The duo bowled one over each before the two teams decided to conclude the match early. However, later on, Ravichandran Ashwin took to Twitter and posted a hilarious tweet, while sharing a picture of Pujara bowling in the Ahmedabad Test. Pujara then gave a brilliant response to Ashwin, resulting in a hilarious Twitter conversation between the two.

Main kya karu? Job chod du? (What should I do, leave my job?),” Ashwin had tweeted, with a picture of Pujara bowling. In reply, Pujara said: “Nahi. This was just to say thank you for going 1 down in Nagpur”

Ashwin then responded to Pujara saying: “Your intent is appreciated but wonder how this is a payback”

The India Test batter replied again, saying: “Giving you enough rest so that you can go 1 down again if needed in the future”.

Ashwin was one of India's biggest difference-makers in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The offspinner concluded the series as the top wicket-taker, bagging 25 scalps. He was also named the joint Player of the Series, alongside Ravindra Jadeja who bagged 22 wickets in the series, as the second-highest wicket-taker.

At the post-match presentation ceremony, Ashwin shed light on his rapport with Jadeja and how the two help each other on the pitch.

“It has been a great journey. We (himself and Jadeja) started a long time ago but we wouldn't be the same or lethal enough without the other. We need to recognise that, at least I have started recognising that over the last 2-3 years. He gives me a lot of freedom to be creative with the ball, credit to him, I thought he bowled beautifully in the Delhi Test as well and that's why we are here today,” he said after the match.

As for Pujara, the batter reached the historic milestone of playing 100 Tests for India in the series, a feat not achieved by many in the game.

Virat Kohli Ends Century Drought, Slams Elusive 28th Test Ton In 4th Test

Star India batter Virat Kohli on Sunday ended his century drought in Test cricket as he slammed an elusive 28th ton in the format on Day 4 of the ongoing fourth Test against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Kohli, who last scored a Test century on November 22, 2019 during a day-night Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, took 241 deliveries to reach triple figures. This was Kohli's 75th century in international ton, and it has put India in a strong position in the match.

Earlier, India managed just 73 runs in 32 overs of the morning session after losing overnight batsman Ravindra Jadeja for 28.

Kohli went past 80 for the first time since his Test ton drought, with his previous highest score of 79 in South Africa in January 2022.

Kohli and the left-handed Jadeja started cautiously against a persistent spin attack with Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy -- both of whom bowled for most of the morning session -- keeping up the pressure.

Jadeja largely remained defensive in his knock but suddenly decided to attack Murphy in one over. His adventure lasted five balls as he chipped the last one to mid-on to get caught.

Kohli kept up the grind alongside wicketkeeper Srikar Bharat, who was sent in because Shreyas Iyer went for scans after he complained of lower back pain following day three's play.

Bharat was on 25 in an unbeaten 53-run stand with Kohli.

India had reached 362-4 at lunch.

On Day 3, Shubman Gill led India's strong reply with his 128 before he fell to Lyon's off-spin.

"Might Be In A Bit Of Drought...": Ricky Ponting's Verdict On Virat Kohli

Amid Virat Kohli's struggles in Test cricket, Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has backed the star batter to replicate his white-ball resurgence in the longest format of the game. Kohli, who ended his three-year long century drought last year during the Asia Cup, has scored just 111 runs across five innings in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Ponting feels that "champion players always find a way" back, saying that he is confident that Kohli will be back to his best very soon.

"For Kohli, I have said that over and over, champion players always find a way. He might be in a bit of a drought at the moment, might be not scoring runs which we all expect him to score but he is a realist as well. When you are a batsman and your are struggling and not scoring runs, you are pretty aware of that yourself. I am not concerned about this because I am confident he will bounce back," Ponting said on ICC Review.

While speaking on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Ponting said that it would be hard to judge any batter on the basis of this series, labelling the pitches as "an absolute nightmare".

"I am not looking at anybody's form in the series because for batters it has been an absolute nightmare. Australia have done a remarkable job by turning around those first two Test matches and coming back to win the third. We all know batting has been so incredibly difficult. And it has not been because of the turn, but also the uneven bounce which makes you lose trust in the wicket and if that happens you are guessing all the time which makes batting really difficult," he added.

Kohli's form will be on scanner once again when India take on Australia in the fourth and final Test, starting March 9.

Rest Of India Beat Madhya Pradesh To Win Irani Cup

Rest of India's bowling unit performed like a well-oiled machine as the team thrashed Madhya Pradesh by 238 runs to retain the prestigious Irani Cup here on Sunday. Chasing a near-impossible 437 for victory, MP were bowled out for 198 in 58.4 overs as the match ended during the opening session of the fifth day. With the so-called result-oriented and under-prepared pitches for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy receiving a lot of flak, the Gwalior track was a throwback to the days when there used to be help for every department of the game. There were four tons scored in the match, 40 wickets fell and pacers and spinners had equal say during the course of the game.

A case in point is the MP second innings where the pacers and spinners shared five wickets apiece.

Seamers Mukesh Kumar (2/34), Atit Sheth (2/37) and Navdeep Saini (1/34) blew away the MP top-order while off spinner Pulkit Narang (2/27) and left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar (3/60) took advantage of the deteriorating surface to mop up the lower middle-order and tail.

In the morning, MP skipper Himanshu Mantri (51) got a raw deal from umpire Rohan Pandit, who raised his finger when the batter hadn't actually nicked one behind the stumps.

MP lost wickets at regular intervals as first-innings centurion Yash Dubey got a lethal in cutter from Mukesh Kumar and was cleaned up in the process.

There was no let-up in intensity from Rest of India bowlers and MP didn't even have the remotest chance to make a match of it.

For the RoI team, made up of mainly India A players, Yashasvi Jaiswal with 357 runs across two innings (213 and 144) was the showstopper.

"If I would have remained not out (on Day 1) I would have gotten a 300 and that would have been better," Jaiswal said after the match.

He praised opener Abhimanyu Easwaran (154), with whom he shared a triple hundred plus stand.

"I had an experienced partner in Easwaran and it was amazing to bat alongside him," the southpaw said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Another good news was Navdeep Saini bowling 29 overs across two innings at a brisk pace.

Easwaran also showed why he is rated highly among the Gen-Next openers. The only aspect that people tend to criticise him for is his inability to deliver in pressure games for Bengal.

There have been eight knockout games (quarterfinals, semifinals and final) across the three red ball seasons that Bengal have played but the Team India contender didn't make a mark in the matches which mattered.

Watch: Haris' Ball Hits Rizwan In PSL Match, Shaheen's Gesture Wins Hearts

Lahore Qalandars registered a 21-run victory over Multan Sultans in their previous Pakistan Super League (PSL) match. Opted to bat, the Qalandars posted a total of 180/9 in 20 overs after Sam Billings and Abdullah Shafique smashed 54 and 48 runs respectively. Later, the Sultans were restricted for 159/7 after Rashid Khan took a three-wicket haul. Apart from a high-scoring match, the fans also witnessed a heartfelt moment on the field, which gave a boost to the spirit of sportsmanship.

During the fifth over of Sultan's chase, pacer Haris Rauf's crackling delivery got struck on rival skipper Mohammad Rizwan's elbow. Writhing in pain, Rizwan had to let go off his bat and completed a single with a lot of difficulty. After the delivery, pacer and Qalandars skipper Shaheen Afridi came forward and tried to console Rizwan, who looked in visible pain. While Rizwan tried to convince the pacer that he was fine but Shaheen made a gesture towards the dugout, asking for the medical help.

The video soon went viral on the social media as the fans were left impressed by Shaheen's heartwarming gesture.

With this win, the Qalandars have now got six victories out of seven matches and have acquired the top spot in the points table. On the other hand, the Sultans are in the second place with four victories out of seven matches.

The Shaheen Afridi-led side will now be going up against Peshawar Zalmi in their next PSL clash on Tuesday while the Sultans will be squaring off against Islamabad United on the same day.

"Destabilising": Australia Great On How Change In Playing XI Impacted India

Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden slammed the Indian batters after the hosts were outplayed by the visitors in third Test in Indore. Chasing a modest target of 76, Australia crossed the finishing line with ease, despite losing a wicket on the second ball of play on Day 3. Travis Head scored a quickfire 49, while Marnus Labuschagne hit the winning boundary to remain unbeaten on 28. Hayden suggested that the Indian batters were playing to save their spots in the team.

"Change of team too. KL Rahul dropped. Some of those things can be a bit destabilising, players playing for their spots and their opportunities can create a different mindset," he said.

The legendary Sunil Gavaskar also criticised the Indian batters for their below-par show in the third Test, saying the "pitch played on their minds".

Hayden, however, was full of praise for Australia opener Travis Head, who scored an unbeaten 49 to take visitors home.

"It's incredible what happens when you show that attitude and intent. That adjustment in the mindset and within two overs (there are) 20 runs (and) bang. This was really, really good batting," the 51-year-old said.

"This can be said about Travis Head. He was left out of the first Test but came out with a fire in the belly from the second Test, something Australians are known for. Punching above our weight, despite the conditions.

"What a good player Travis Head is. He is becoming one of the real forces in world cricket. A remarkable turnaround in momentum. Great fight and they have shown what they can do. Australia was knocked out in Delhi...like Lazarus, now they've emerged." Former Australia captain Mark Taylor too was effusive in his praise for Head, who took the attack to the Indian bowlers.

"Australia had to be a little bit proactive, but as we saw in the second Test when they decided to reverse sweep and sweep everything, being proactive doesn't mean being rash. It needed someone to push the button and say 'I've got to put the pressure back on the bowler'," Taylor was quoted as saying by Wide World of Sports.

"That was the moment Travis Head thought, well I'm going to go now, I'm going to go try and eat into this deficit quickly and put the pressure on the bowler, and it worked brilliantly." Australia had come into the match lagging 0-2 after being completely outplayed in the first two Tests.

In the third Test, the visitors were without their regular skipper Pat Cummins, who had left for home to be with his ailing mother. In his absence, the team, which had to make a few changes. was led brilliantly by Steve Smith. "On a very average pitch - and that's putting it nicely - the Aussies did really well. To lose the toss as well - they won the toss in the first two and had the advantage, and then sort of lost it as the games went on," Taylor said.

"This match, they had players out, captain gone, then to lose the toss on a raging turner and still win by nine wickets, that's a great effort." The two teams will face off in the fourth and final Test in Ahmedabad beginning March 9.

Gill Hurts Himself While Running Between Wickets. Pic Of Injury Surfaces

India opener Shubman Gill suffered a bruise on his stomach while trying to steal a quick single in India's ongoing third Test against Australia at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore on Wednesday. The right-handed batter was included in the playing XI by dropping out-of-form batter KL Rahul. Gill, who entered the game on the back of a good batting performances, duly understood the value of his wicket; a glimpse of which was seen in the 7th over of India's innings.

Gill tucked a Mitchell Starc delivery in front of mid-on fielder Todd Murphy. Just when Gill realised that he was in danger, he put in a dive to enter the crease in time. The effort saw Gill hurting himself and the pictures of his injury are going viral on social media.

The third Test in Indore kicked off with host skipper Rohit Sharma winning the toss and opting to bat.

India were bowled out for 109 by Australia in the post-lunch session on the opening day on Wednesday. Virat Kohli made 22, while Shubman Gill scored 21 as the Indian batters failed to tackle the Australian spin attack.

Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann registered his maiden five-wicket haul (5/16) in Test cricket while Nathan Lyon returned figures of 3 for 35. Todd Murphy scalped one wicket. The pitch in Nagpur offered vicious turn in the first innings and the Australian spinners used it beautifully to their advantage.

Australia took the lead against India in the third session of the opening day after losing only two wickets.

Bismah Maroof Steps Down As Pakistan Women's Team Captain

Bismah Maroof has stepped down as Pakistan women's cricket team captain, ending a nearly six-year stint of leading the side. Maroof's last assignment as captain was the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa where the team failed to make it to the semi-final, losing three of the four group games, including a thriller against arch-rivals India. The 31-year-old had played a pivotal role in guiding Pakistan to a competitive 149 in the T20 World Cup, remaining unbeaten at 68 runs. But India overhauled the target with six balls to spare to win by seven wickets.

The veteran batter has played 124 WODIs and 132 WT20I so far, of which she led the team in 34 ODIs (16 wins) and 62 T20Is (27 wins).

Bismah will, however, remain available for selection as a player, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement on Wednesday.

Bismah was named Pakistan's all-format captain in September 2017 and has had the best win-loss ratio amongst all the regular players to lead the country.

Her replacement will be announced in due course, said the PCB.

"It has been an honour for me to captain my country and I feel fortunate to have led an incredible and hardworking bunch of cricketers. It has been one exciting ride, which has been full of highs and lows, but, at the end of the day, I will always be thankful to Almighty for providing me this opportunity.

"With the new ICC Women's Championship cycle in its initial stages and the 2024 T20 World Cup more than a year away, I think this is the right time for me to step down and help so we have a smooth transition," said Bismah.

"I am looking forward to continuing to play as a player and playing my role for the team." PCB management committee chairman, Najam Sethi said, "Bismah has been an inspiration for millions of girls and has been a catalyst for a positive change. With her immense dedication and hard work, she has shown that women can continue to follow their passions and dreams.

"I am sure her presence in the Pakistan dressing room will continue to be a source of inspiration to our young cricketers and she will continue to serve Pakistan with honour and pride as she has been doing since she was a teenager."

3rs Test, Day 1: Jadeja Helps India Fight Back, But Australia In Control

Indian batters' longstanding struggles against spin were thoroughly exposed before Australia applied themselves on a rank turner to take control of the third Test on a frantic opening day of the match here on Wednesday. Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemman (5/16) picked up his maiden five-wicket haul as Australia skittled India out for a paltry 109 shortly after lunch on day one. Virat Kohli top-scored for India with 22 off 52 balls. Trailing 0-2 in the series, Australia came out with a strong resolve and purpose to end the day at 156 for four, taking a 47-run lead.

Ravindra Jadeja (4/63) took all four wickets for India including that of stand-in captain Steve Smith (26 off 38) before close of play.

Usman Khawaja (60 off 147) was the standout performer for Australia as he tackled the skill-full Jadeja and R Ashwin with a straight bat and soft hands.

Marnus Labuschagne (31 off 91 balls), who was bowled off a no ball early in his innings, rode on his luck to share a 96-run stand with Khawaja, the highest partnership of the series for the visitors.

Though the usually accurate Indian spinners were not relentless with their lines and lengths, Khawaja and Labuschagne rectified the "sweeping" mistakes they made in Delhi by playing straight and trusting their defense.

When India were batting, the pitch seemed unplayable but Khawaja and Co. showed the way to the home team.

Khawaja's gritty knock also had a couple of drives on the off-side. He was also not shy of playing the reverse sweep but mostly played straight.

The southpaw hardly put a foot wrong in his crafty knock but when he did, he had to pay for it. In the 43rd over of the innings, Khawaja went for the sweep from around the off-stump off Jadeja and ended up giving a catch at deep midwicket.

Like Nagpur and Delhi, the game is set for another three-day finish and a 100-run lead on this surface will be worth gold.

India were also guilty of bowling four no-balls.

Earlier, having lost seven of the batters by the end of the opening session, India could add only 25 more runs to their total with Kuhnemann ending with career-best figures in first-class cricket.

If it wasn't for Umesh Yadav's 17 off 13 balls, India would have struggled to get past the 100-run mark.

The only wicket that came India's way in the afternoon session was of Travis Head (9), who missed a straight ball from Jadeja to be adjudged lbw.

It was a sign of desperation that India exhausted two of their three views in the first 10 overs. Labuschagne got a second life when India did not review a lbw call off Ashwin. The great Matthew Hayden on air called the the black soil surface at the Holkar Stadium a day-three pitch and it sure behaved like one.

Three India batters including skipper Rohit Sharma (12), Jadeja (4) and Shreyas Iyer (0) perished while trying to attack.

Kohli looked assured in the middle before being trapped lbw by Todd Murphy towards the end of the session. Winning the toss for the first time in the series, India expectedly decided to bat first. Shubman Gill replaced an out-of-form K L Rahul in the playing eleven while Umesh Yadav was brought in for the rested Mohammad Shami.

Having regained match fitness, both Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green made Australia's playing eleven.

Starc's first over to Rohit was among the highlights of the morning session. Before the spinners ran through the Indian batting, Starc got the ball to swing giving the India skipper a tough time.

Rohit got a faint outside edge on the very first ball he faced but Australia did not take a review. Three balls later, Starc got the ball to swing back in and it flicked Rohit's pads. Ball tracking showed the ball would have hit the off stump but Australia did not take the review.

Spin was introduced in the sixth over and Kuhnemman got the ball to turn sharply. In the last ball of the over, Rohit stepped out to play across the line and got beaten in the flight and Alex Carey made a clean stumping.

Kuhnemann had Gill caught at first slip with the opener getting a thick outside edge while offering a forward defence.

Cheteshwar Pujara's stay lasted only four balls as Lyon got one to turn massively from wide off stump that crashed into the middle stump. The ball kept a tad low as well and Pujara was found wanting on the back foot.

When Shreyas Iyer played an attempted cut on to his stumps, India had lost half their side.
